Wat Chalong & Phuket Temples & Big Buddha

One of Phuket Thailand most popular sacred religious sites, Wat Chalong or Chalong temple was built in the 19th century to pay reverence to the monks that led the citizens of Chalong Sub district against the Chinese Rebellion in 1876. Wat Chaiyathararem, the official name of the temple is home to a splinter of Lord Buddha’s relic which resides inside the 60 meter tall Grand Pagoda “Chedi”. The temple is one of the largest and most popular of temples out of the 29 other temples spread throughout Phuket. Inside painting depicting Buddha the halls of the pagoda along with various life-sized Buddhist statues. Wat Chalong is approximately 30 minutes from Days Inn Patong by car.

To get there head towards Ao Sane Beach and continue to Krating Resort Phuket, from here continue walking along the seafront cliffs for another 100 metres and you will find a small trail that leads to the horn-shaped rock. The walk takes approximately 30 minutes. Take some amazing photos of the wide panoramic sea views, beautiful sunset and starry night skies.
